Volunteers Needed

March 2024

Friends of Gashora are looking for more volunteers to help us run the many crafts fairs and markets in Victoria, Nanaimo, Port Alberni, other Fairs on Vancouver Island, as well as Vancouver, in order to sell the beautiful handwoven baskets and sewn items that the women of Gashora, Rwanda are creating. All our proceeds are sent back to the NGO in Gashora for educational, nutritional and health care programs.

Friends of Gashora is a group of men and women that care about the most vulnerable people in this rural Village in Rwanda. As you can see from our website (www.friendsofgashora.com ) we have impacted many women and children over the past 5 years with our donations and sales. Over this time the volunteers have become friends and we have a lot of fun during the events we participate in.

Volunteering with us will give you an opportunity to meet many like minded people, make new friends, learn new skills, have great conversations and have a lot of fun. Volunteering with Friends of Gashora ( FrOG ) doesn’t have to be a long time commitment or involve a lot of hours. Just helping out with one market a year will have a big impact. (task could include pricing, set up, take down, selling etc.) You can even participate as a family or with a group of friends.

With more volunteers we would be able to raise more funds to support women’s economic empowerment by teaching more young women to sew and weave. This would set a direct path towards gender equality, reduce gender based violence and eradicate poverty.  It means that more women would become independent and be able to support their families, send their children to school, eat more nutritious meals and have health insurance as well as improve their physical living conditions.

Please contact us if you have any questions regarding becoming a volunteer at gabriele.gashora@gmail.com

We are looking forward to hearing from you and welcoming you into our FrOG family. Please share this notice widely with friends and family.
